Once ordered, your Kit is mailed to you within 3 business days via express shipping. After imprinting your wax, use the pre-paid shipping label included in your Kit to mail back to our studio. Your wax is then created into a pendant or ring and sent to a Casting House to turn into solid metal, this takes approx. 2 weeks. Once the casted piece is back at our studio, it is polished to perfection. Your final piece is then mailed to you via express shipping. The entire process takes approx. 3-4 weeks starting from when we receive your impression waxes.

Pets:
•Capture an impression of your pets Paw or Nose. The wax is soft and will not harm them.
Adults, Teens & Children:
•Inspect your fingertips and select a strong pattern.
Infants:
•Distinct fingerprints are formed usually after 1 year. If imprinting a newborn, we suggest imprinting knuckles, palm creases or simply the fingertip to capture their small size.
Elderly Adults:
•Fingerprints may be less distinct. If you’d like more texture try imprinting the knuckle or palm of hand.
Objects:
•Anything you’d like to press into the wax can be cast into metal!
Examples: coins, buttons, keys, shells, leaves, fabrics.
•Wash and dry hands prior.
•If imprinting a pet, wipe off their nose or paw.
•Try to avoid excess dirt or pet hair on the wax.
•For single sided fingerprints, use the paper provided.
•After the impression, hold wax on the outside rim and place separately into the plastic containers.
Want to start over?
•The wax is re-useable! If you aren’t happy with your impression, simply roll the wax back into a ball and try again. *How the wax looks once pressed (texture, size + shape) is how it will look in metal. We will smooth out any obvious imperfections prior to casting (for example, if there are cracks on the sides of the wax).
Each Impression Kit includes a pre-paid shipping envelope to mail back your waxes to our studio to be made into a pendant or ring.
*International customers are responsible for sending back wax & order form using their preferred shipping carrier.
What to include in the shipping envelope:
•The pressed waxes in their separate containers.
•Provided Order Form *please complete to confirm your order details.
Place into a Canada Post Box when you are ready.
*For a faster delivery back to our studio, drop off at a Canada Post Office (like in a Shoppers Drug Mart).
•You will receive an email from us confirming we have received your waxes & order form.
Please return your wax impressions within 6 months of ordering the Kit. If returned beyond that time frame, an additional fee may be required to cover the costs of rising metal prices.
What is Lost Wax Casting?
•A wax model of a piece of jewellery is replaced with molten metal to create a detailed metal replica. This process is very organic and the outcome varies depending on each individual print.
Why are there two waxes per Kit?
•To get the best result, please imprint on both waxes provided. We will closely inspect the waxes and choose the best one for casting. One Kit = One finished piece.
How do I soften the wax?
•Soften the wax by squishing it between your fingertips and rolling back into a ball.
•For children and pets, place the wax in cup of hot tap water (not boiling) for about 30 seconds. This will help soften the wax even more for their comfort.
Is the wax safe?
•Yes, this wax is safe to imprint. Be sure to store in the plastic containers after use to keep out of reach from children and pets. Do not consume the wax. *Open Fire Jewellery is not responsible for personal injury or damage.
Can multiple pieces of jewellery be made from one wax impression?
•Due to the nature of Lost Wax Casting, 1 wax = 1 finished piece. To create duplicates from one impression, a silicone ‘Master’ mould is required. Impression ‘Master’ Moulds are not available at this time.

•This will polish the metal to a brand-new shine + protect the gemstones from harsh chemicals.
•The cloth will darken while polishing. This is normal; do not wash the cloth.
We recommend getting sized at your local jewellery shop or using our DIY ring sizer to help determine your ring size.
